after i reach singapore on 8nov, i will be heading off to Hangzhou (Zhejiang University) on 28nov for 4 weeks, den have a week of own travel, and spend another 4 weeks in Beijing (Beijing Institute of Education).

After which i will be back in singapore on 1feb 2010, den leaving for perth on 20feb 2010.
due to limited time, i might not be able to meet some of u =(

if air tix is cheap in june i might go back for vacation, we'll see...

and i tell u it tastes good! esp. the char siew hee =))

this is the soup. there's dried red dates, xiang gu (black mushrooms),
chicken drumsticks, pepper, salt, sugar, sesame oil, chicken stock, qi zi
(lycium berries - red coloured eye-like thingy), lotus, minced garlic, abalone sauce.

fried wanton - inside consists of minced pork and sliced xiang gu (black mushrooms).
I marinated the minced pork then wrapped the
fillings with wanton skin n fried them in healthy olive oil.

char siew - marinated the pork overnight with my secret recipe. baked one side for 20 min, flip over and bake for another 20min, den brushed honey on one side and bake for another 2-3min.

vegetables' the simplest task - juz boil them!
and how long depending on how crunchy u love them!

Sri Lanka's fighting rages despite calls for halt

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers put up stiff resistance to advancing government troops on Wednesday, in heavy fighting that saw the beleaguered rebels launch a wave of suicide attacks, the military said.

The clashes came as both sides in the brutal conflict faced renewed charges of war crimes, with the United Nations describing the situation as "absolutely awful" and a rights group saying civilians were being used as "cannon fodder".

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her British counterpart David Miliband also appealed for a halt in the fighting to allow thousands of trapped civilians to escape.

But the island's military, which says it has the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) surrounded in just four square kilometres (1.5 square miles) of coastal jungle, said fighting continued to rage.

It said at least 10 guerrillas died in a wave of suicide boat strikes against army positions along the northeast coast. It added that several government troops were wounded, but gave no further details.

There was no immediate comment from the rebels, and the army's claims cannot be independently verified as independent journalists, diplomats and most aid agencies are barred from going anywhere near the conflict zone.

The Colombo government estimates up to 20,000 civilians are being held in the pocket where the LTTE are holed up, although the United Nations has said as many as 50,000 may be trapped – huddled in shallow bunkers and with scant food, water or medical facilities.

On Tuesday, the rebels accused the army of killing at least 47 civilians in an artillery and mortar attack on a hospital, a charge fiercely denied by the island's military.

That followed an alleged massive army bombardment of the area over the weekend, which the rebels claimed had left up to 2,000 dead.

The Human Rights Watch statement, however, blamed both sides for the ongoing carnage.

"Recent satellite photos and witness accounts show the brutal shelling of civilians in the conflict area goes on," Brad Adams, Asia director at the US-based Human Rights Watch, said.

The rights group also described witness accounts of how the Tigers, accused of using civilians as human shields, murdered anyone who tried to cross over to government territory.

"Neither the Sri Lankan army nor the Tamil Tigers appear to have any reluctance in using civilians as cannon fodder," Adams said.

UN humanitarian co-ordinator John Holmes said intransigence by both the Sri Lankan government and the rebels had created an "absolutely awful situation".

"The LTTE are clearly still holding onto that population against their will, using them as human shields," he said at a news conference in Geneva.

"The government have said they are not using heavy weapons. But the evidence suggests that they are continuing to do so, at least to some extent."

The UN's rights chief has already said both sides may be guilty of war crimes.

On the diplomatic front, Britain and the United States issued a joint appeal for a truce – the latest in a series of so far futile international calls aimed at ending the fighting.

"Secretary Clinton and Foreign Secretary Miliband call on all sides to end hostilities immediately and allow for the safe evacuation of the tens of thousands of civilians," a statement said after the two met in Washington.

The European Union has called for the issue to taken up by the UN Security Council, but some powerful members, notably China and Russia, opposed it.

finally cleared one 3000-word politics essay n over n done wif my psych stats test today! gosh tat's y i hate math, n i still gotta do it as an arts student cos' it's one of the core units in order to do a single major in Psych.
but tis marks the beginning of my other 2500-word politics essay. oh man~
after which i'm left with a 1500-word psych experience lab report and a lab book before my exams commence on 6june.
my mid-yr vacation will only start on 19june. probably driving 4hours up north to visit other parts of western australia =)

on a brighter note, i received my psych lab report today and out of 20% of the assessment structure, i managed to get 16%. =D=D

i promise myself i must do better than last sem and so far so good =D
i'm gonna do my family proud so they'll noe i'm not wasting every single cent spent here HAHA =P

april is pretty satisfied with her work so far for this semester!! hee~
but i noe i must not be complacent.
i got back my essay plan for politics of the mass media in which i churned out my own topic instead of following the tutorial topics:

To what extent do the Chinese government have control over the media?
(if u're thinking "aahh it's china again!" lol~ but i dunno why i juz love to write abt china and i'm discovering more and more abt tis country which shld not be overlooked, esp. in times like now when it's a rising superpower on the global stage!)

And guess what? i got 80/100 =)
my tutor said this is a very gd qn n he's looking forward to reading my final essay and he said it's very well done and thorough! =D ok now i feel pressured if i'll screw it up haha~

And i got my psychological research methods quiz results yesterday-it's 60 questions in all and i got 92/100 =) the average mark for the cohort is 70.6 with a standard deviation of 13 (if u do stats u'll understand wat it means haha), and out of 300 students in the cohort, only abt 27 students scored above 90 =D

I juz had my politics of the mass media presentation tis morning-it's abt the main factors that affect the media's capacity to hold a mirror up to society. thought it went pretty ok, hoping not to get a bad mark!

and now i needa start on my essay for international relations in east asia in which the topic (abt the sustainability of china's international power and influence) is wat i have posted in one of the recent entries previously. so now i'm gonna start on my research!

this particular book costs $18.20 after discount so i didnt wanna get but dear bought it for me... saying it's my birthday present lol~ anyway thanks cos i thot the book's interesting but i cant bear to get it =)

On 18 February 2009, I started queuing at about 3.45pm to check in for my flight at 5.45pm on JQ110 to Perth. I had renewed my Singapore passport as it was due to expire. The counter staff highlighted that my student visa was attached to my old passport number. Since I had a new passport number, they directed me to the ‘Qantas’ counter.

A lady at the ‘Qantas’ counter informed me that according to the Australian Immigration Policy, the student visa is non-transferrable. She suggested that I could pay SGD$70 to apply for a vacation visa, and upon reaching Perth, I could go down to the Australian Immigration Office to re-apply for a student visa (which costs AUD$450!!!). She tried sending a message online to the Australian Immigration Office, but their reply would take some time. As the check-in counter had to close soon, I had no choice but to take up that alternative.

Upon reaching the boarding gate, a female representative from the Australian Immigration Policy checked my boarding pass and visa. She told me that the student visa is actually transferrable and is definitely more superior to the vacation visa. Therefore, she meant that my application for the vacation visa was not necessary. And I had to wait for all the other passengers to board the plane before I was attended to. After that, she said there was nothing much she could do for me, but she would enlighten the staff at the Qantas counter so that they would not feed the wrong information to future passengers.

At that moment, I really felt cheated by the lady who served me at the Qantas counter. I tried to check in 2 hours before the departure time so that I could spend a little more time with my family and friends. In the end, I wasted so much time and effort to go through the entire process, so much so that I could not have a proper farewell with them. Right after I rushed to check in for my flight after getting the vacation visa, I had to board the plane immediately. And after all that trouble to board the plane, only to realize the entire process previously was redundant. Due to the staff’s negligence, I encountered a terrible experience during the departure.

For all the hassle I had to go through for nothing, and paying SGD$70 for a vacation visa which was unwarranted...

JB trip wif Huiyu!

we went to city square JB to relax!
the bus fare only costs abt 50cents per trip, right from our ez-link card.
it's really a budget trip since most of the stuffs are really at low prices.
we sang ktv there.
they have the latest songs plus superb food.
the entire package for 4 hours only costs abt 5-6 singapore dollars per person!
now the singapore ktv really seems like nth man!
and then we watched movie at 2.50 singapore dollars per person.
it's cathay cinema. the snacks in the cinema are value for money too. such as popcorn combos, wedges set, fries set, fish fingers set etc. plus we had a lucky dip n won a pepsi mug wif ronaldinho's face on it lol~
the above is all at student rate as they recognise our singapore student card. how nice! =P

Few days ago, when i was heading home from school, the bus suddenly came to an abrupt stop cos i think there's a car in front which made a sudden turn without signalling. thus we were flung forward n my knees hit badly into the seat in front of me. thank God there's no crash.

Yesterday when i was heading home from school with jiaming, we fell asleep on the bus. and halfway thru the journey, we were all told to alight the bus and hop on to another one in front of us. think the bus had some problems but not sure wat went wrong. thus our journey home was delayed.

But we had a good dinner to make it all up, esp. with the stress over exams! brenda bought KFC n we ate the chicken with plain rice and brenda's home-made "kimchi", mashed potato. Of cos not forgetting my favourite CHILLI! n finally down with a cup of pepsi max. YUMMY!~ Just the day before i fried chicken kway teow in oyster sauce for them. =)) n brenda baked honey joys (cornflakes n almonds dipped in homemade sweet syrup). =D it was so addictive! heehee~

After dinner jiaming n i took the dogs (Skye and Ollie) out for a walk around the neighbourhood, to digest the sinful dinner. and love seeing the dogs get all hyper and excited about walkies. they react strongly to tat word. amazing~

then sighs, back to studies..............................

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS SEM TO END! juz 3 more days =))

btw pple, due to daylight saving, now the time in perth is one hour ahead of singapore's time. it started last month. the time will be the same as in singapore after summer, probably around end of march. now the day's longer which is quite good.

oh yea the bad thing abt here when it's finally not cold, the freaking irritating flies start appearing! n they stick to u like crazy. u juz feel it's the same fly following u from home to school. gosH! hate the damn flies!

i remembered few months back when i was still in singapore, when i was onboard bus 69, one of the window panes directly opposite me started shattering into pieces halfway thru the journey from tampines to bedok. it left a hole right in the middle of the pane.

thank God the pieces flew far but didn't hit me, just almost. n the funny thing was tat georgie was on the same bus as me but we did not see each other, until she alighted n called me asking for stomp's hotline as she witnessed an accident on bus 69. LOL

the natural human distinct: "wah tis is the first time i m witnessing sth like tat, shld take pictures!" *starts ransacking my bag for the camera* =P

den i realised the window panes they used on buses were really thick! haha~

we seriously dunno how to analyse the data recorded for the psych hypothesis:

a male's birth order will influence his scores on measures that examine thinking styles.

trying to say that males with more older brothers, decreases their exposure to testosterone in utero, and as testosterone levels influence thinking styles, these males tend to have lower AQ (Autism Spectrum Quotient) and SQ (Systemising Quotient) scores and higher EQ (Empathising Quotient) scores.

and we are supposed to come up with a 1500-word essay on the above hypothesis.

tat essay on india was for my subject "the contemporary international system". it's a level one unit.

my level 2 unit is "global governance". for tis essay, we are supposed to do research and come up with our own topic! whoaa~

so after much thought n research, my topic was:

To what extent are human rights norms allowed for recognition by the Chinese government?"

i m particularly interested in the universal declaration of human rights in 1948, and to what extent does the world recognise it? obviously not much, the world noes its importance yet it juz seems more like a guideline for human respect, rather than putting it into practice.

my essay's word limit is 2500. thus i cant write abt recognition from the world, or i can write a book on it. so i decided to narrow my focus down to china, as human rights violations has been a major issue in their nation currently. from the 1989 massacre of the student demonstrators at tiananmen square, beijing, till now, how the beijing olympics games are supposed to improve human rights situation in china, yet on the other hand, the situation could now pose a threat to the games. i'll look into tat aspect, and also how confucianism affects the opinions of the chinese towards human rights. if it's a valid concept to correlate the two.

the first political science essay which i had submitted, i was supposed to critically evaluate india's status as an emerging major power in today's world. and i had 13 references to it! lol. cos brenda said the more references u have, the more they noe u read up and researched on the topic, n tat's how she scored HD (high distinction). haha~ but still, if i don't write well, don't think references can save me. lol. we'll see when the result's out.

and the day before my essay was due for submission, my dear sis talked to me on msn n told me she came across an article tat morning and it was abt changing india and emerging on the world global stage. mainly quotes from former Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. and eugene picked out the impt points while my sis typed them out and send to me. so touched! thx darlingSs!

and it was really useful. i quoted them in separate sections of my essay and really helped one paragraph flow to another. =) and i especially like this inspiring quote!

“Where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character.
When there is beauty in the character, there is harmony in the home
When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation.
When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world.”

he was talking about how righteousness shld start at childhood.
urging primary sch teachers to build the foundation in the students.
and the process goes on till peace is achieved in the world.

and tat wonderful quote was used as the conclusion for my essay!

one week has passed since sch started.
let me tell u abt my first day of sch.
my lect was at 10am.
so tat means i had to catch the 9am bus latest.
the good thing here abt buses is tat they provide a bus schedule.
so u noe exactly when is the bus coming, den u make sure u reach the bus-stop few min before the stated time in case the bus comes earlier than expected.
i left the house, n it started pouring.
n my freaking umbrella was spoilt during the week before sch started.
the wind here is too strong, my umbrella couldnt take it. ha.
so i had to make do with a pathetic umbrella n of cos, i still got drenched.
oh yea n i hate it when i stepped in a puddle of water!
not exactly cos it's dirty, but the water's cold!! LOL so it freezes me like crazy!
n when i reached the bus-stop, i realised i have missed my bus!
i thot it's ok, if i catch the next one i still wont be late.
but who noes, i reached the esplanade busport at ard 9.40am.
n to my horror, the queue for the bus to UWA was freaking long!
from platform E1 to E3! whoaaa~
so i had to wait, n of cos i couldnt squeeze up the next bus.
n to my horror again, on the screen it's stated the next bus will arrive at 9.55am!
which means i will definitely be late cos it takes at least 10min to reach the sch's entrance.
so i thot alright, i go try hail a cab.
i left the busport n went to the taxi stand, n waited n waited, but the taxi stand seems like juz a display, cos not a single cab turned in! haha
so i went back to the busport n decided to juz wait for the bus!
i went up the 9.55am bus n reached sch ard 10.15am.
thank God the lect's at octagon theatre!
cos it's near the sch's entrance n it's a big theatre, plus the theatre's entrance is at the second floor, so i could juz walk in n sit at the back, without many pple noticing. lol~

it's a must to take them online in order to graduate from uni.
Academic Conduct Essentials compulsory for all UWA students and some research techniques subject compulsory for all Arts students.
and i juz organised a list yest n realised i need at least 6 textbooks!

one happy thing is i met a new fren called Su Fern.
she's in the exact situation as me.
she did mass comm in sp.
den came here to do Arts majoring in political science and international relations.
so she was also given half a yr exemption.
so we had 3 common units n we're in the same tut class for both political science subjects!
ultimate coolness so we're gonna mug together!
juz tat instead of macroeconomics, she chose an eng lit subj.
i dropped mine cos i couldnt stand reading a new text n watching a new film every single week, n after tat having to analyse a whole chunk of words n actions! lol~

ok i noe i still have lots to go on abt but i think i shld go wash up n start reading my notes to prepare for next week's tut!
dun wanna lose out in my tut participation marks! hee~

dear one n all beloveds
indeed perth is a rather boring place.
after hearing so much from others, i have experienced it for myself lol =P
now slacking at home.
sch starting the day after tmr.
hope it'll be fun n wanna noe more frens! =)

did my enrolment on wednesday n it's so tough!
took me 3 hours to complete it cos i dun really understand a lot of stuffs abt it.
cant believe tat every sem we have to do tis.
but wells, next sem shld be easier i hope since i've tried the system haha.

it has been raining quite often here.
n it's winter, so it gets really cold.
miss the SUN!! haha~
so cold tat i cant be bothered to take out the cam to take pics.
or else the pics are in my fren's cam. lol

miss singapore!
miss my family n friends!
miss attending svc n cgm!
